Easy to put together

Bedside cribs are typically easy to set up, and are on the smaller side so they can be easily tucked away beside your bed. They also tend to be lighter, which makes them more portable. Georgina, one of our MFM home test participants, praised the Maxi-Cosi Lora for being "super straightforward to construct, with clear instructions and easy zips." The crib can also function as a travel cot for bedside, and comes with a handy bag for when you're on the move. It has multiple mesh windows for breathability, and the adjustable height makes it will fit any mattress.

Some bedside cribs have a side panel that can be raised, allowing an easy access to your baby without the need to get out of your bed. This is a great option for mothers who are breastfeeding or parents who want to be with their baby throughout the night but don't want to be at risk of co sleeper bedside cot-sleeping (which is linked to a higher risk of SIDS).

Georgina also found it easy to put together however she was disappointed that the instructions could have been more clear regarding the zips.

Easy to clean

Look for cribs that come with removable mattress covers which can be washed in the machine while looking at bedside cribs or travel cots. That will help you keep it free of leaky nappies, sick babies and drips. It's an excellent idea to select a model that can be disassembled and partially dismantled, so that you can access all the corners and crevices for a thorough cleaning and sanitising session.

This is vital, as it's the best way to be sure that all dirt and germs have been cleared away. You'll also want to check that the sides of your crib are securely attached, so there are no gaps or spaces where your baby could potentially slip down or become trapped.
