How to Replace an audi a4 key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are several pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Examine replacement key for audi a4 signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced massive power loss as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I start the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car key cover audi is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please share them! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or an unfire when in the gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement audi key. The good thing is that they are very cheap and readily available, especially in the case of a Bosch model, which is what ours are. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi a4 replacement key because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it can disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

Lexus.jpgThe G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the amount of fuel and boost, and also timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This is a common feature across the audi Replacement key service Near me 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
