There's a variety of three-wheel all terrain pushchairs to pick from that offer excellent off-road capability. They are perfect for those who live in the countryside or frequently go walking on rough, uneven ground. A majority of all-terrain pushchairs lack seats that can be reversible, however the models like the Oyster 3 wheel baby stroller, Venicci Tinum and egg 2 do come with this option and both offer an excellent level of off-road performance and have an acceptable weight limit for a 2-year old. There are many pushchairs that are classed as all-rounders like the iCandy Pear and Bugaboo Cameleon that are able to cope with the rough terrain of the park or National Trust places but don't have quite the off-road capability of genuine all-terrain pushchairs.

Wheels

It's not as flexible as the other strollers that are all-terrain however, it is able to manage hilly terrain and has a spacious one-handed fold that is great for long walks in the countryside or long trips. It's also suitable from birth and has a huge sun canopy that extends and a host of great features for parents, like a simple brake pedal, adjustable handlebar and generously spacious basket.

Stores

Parents who want to take their child off-road, but don't want to commit to taking on Ben Nevis, there are some excellent all terrain pushchairs that offer the best of both worlds. Find a model with an excellent all-terrain capability, solid suspension and large puncture-proof wheels, but built in the traditional pushchair style with reversible seats and all carrycot options.

The UPPAbaby's bestselling Ridge all-terrain pushchair is a perfect example of this. It provides excellent suspension, a simple one-handed fold and a huge 10kg basket but also has features for parents that are child-friendly, like an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right side and a large, covered storage space. The hood can be removed, and washed with cool soapy water to avoid mould or mildew.

If you are planning to take your all-terrain stroller off-road, opt for air-filled tires rather than rubber grips. They'll provide a more comfortable ride on rough ground and be easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. If you are planning to use your all-terrain pushchair for occasional jogging, ensure that the front wheel can swivel or has a quick release facility so it can be locked in place to provide greater stability.

To keep the fabrics in pristine condition, ensure that they are machine-washed. If not, a spot cleaning using soapy water and some warm water should suffice. Drying the fabric completely outdoors will also help to prevent the growth of mould and mildew.
