How to Replace an audi a4 replacement key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

Nissan-New.png1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various connector pins, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected but it still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do, but i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and Near By RS2 vehicles. You can easily find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing upwards). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good news is they are quite affordable and easily accessible particularly when you're looking at a Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your Audi Q3 Key's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. When this sensor Audi A3 Key Replacement fails, it will affect the performance of the transmission, as well as the rest of the replacement car key audi's components.

Peugeot-2021-New-Black.pngThe G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This part is common across the audi keys replacement 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 Du You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
