How to Replace an audi spare key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the top of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor replace audi Key serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It's a bit tricky to test since there are different pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were soaked with gazoline and the fourth one was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.
I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem persists at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, but i feel i have pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a junkyard or at a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to know the position and speed the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger the engine shutting down.
A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is going bad and requires audi tt replacement key. The good news is that they are quite affordable and easily accessible particularly if you're looking at a Bosch model, which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good choice.
