The best robot hoover can mop and autonomous vacuum without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end features (such as a dirt detectors) are a plus.

Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover (look here) for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot mop that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum mop cleaner robot and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
