WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrade used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to level up weapons tools, armor, and accessories. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display an item's preview at the next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item Level upgrade and the current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via several methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain item upgrader kit level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less even when they are part of another set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available after certain milestones are reached.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few options. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with an upgrade path that is different. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level for all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
